CLIFTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

[FROM OUR OWN OOBBBBPONDBNT.J The meeting of the Clifton County Council was held on Tuesday. Present : Messrs A. F. Halcombe (chairman), A. J. Wise, L. Sarten, H. Irvine, and T. Elliot. Rescinding a Resolution, — Mr T. Elliot gave notice of motion for next meeting — " That the resolution passed by the Clifton Council at its meeting on 3rd July last re merging the Tikorangi Road 'District into the Clifton County be resoinded," Furze on Roads. — It was resolved that a reply be sent to Mr R. H. Pigott's letter — "That the Counoil has no power at present to compel tbe removal of gorse in roads on native lands." Spread- of Gorse. — It was resolved — " That a letter be addressed to the member for the Taranaki District, requesting him to ascertain from the Government what measures can be taken to prevent the Bpread of gome and enforce its removal from road lines on native boundaries." Refund to R. Pigott. — It was resolved — " That a reply be Bent to Mr R. H. Pigott stating tbat ho is in error in supposing that only 8J days work was to bo deducted from his account." Furze, Mr Reily's application.— -It wns resolved—" That a reply be Bent to Mr Reily to the effect that it is understood that Mr P. Vaughan is clearing away the gorse complained of." Vary Factories.— A letter intimating that Mr McCullum, a dairy expert, would visit the district and hold meetings, was read. Balance Sheet. — It was resolved—" That the Chairman write to the Colonial Treasurer pointing out the unsatisfactory position of the audit na at. present carried out." Native Dogs — A long discussion ensued with reßpect to native dogs, when tbe Council ultimately resolved — "That the Colonial Secretary be applied to, to know if the services of the local police could be availed of for the enforcement of the registration of dogs, as the number of unregistered dogs at large, especially in tbe neighbourhood of tbe native pabs, had become a serious nuisance to the Settlors." Pound at Wai-Toi- Tol— Mr L. Sarten gave notice of motion that at the next ordinary meeting of the Council he would move—" That a publio pound be erected at.Wai-Toi-Toi." Accounts — Accounts amounting to £52 % 5d wore gone through and passed for payment. The Council rose.
