STRATFORD AND NGAIRE. [from our own correspondent.]
August 8. — Every effort is being made to establish a dairy faotory at Ngaire, and a final meeting is to be held to-night, when if sufficient support has boen guaranteed, the erection of the necessary buildings will be at once proceeded with. It has been found necessary to raise the value of the shares from £5 to £10, and 60 shares will be issued. It is calculated, I believe, that it will be only necessary to call up half the amount, and tho payment of instalments will be made as easy as possible. There appears to be a great diversity of opinion as to the probable ohance or otherwise of the undertaking with such a limited amount of capital, but as the oohoern is to bo worked on the co operative principle, shareholders aro bound to pull together, and as union is strength there is every probability of the affair being oirried to a successful issne. The Ngaire Quadrille Assembly wound up their season with a ball, whioh I understand was a great success, and it is now contemplated by bojio of the trustees of the hall to carry it on forjanother quarter, the proceeds to be in aid of the hall funds, and as the charge for admission will be reduced to a shilling, which will include refreshrr.entp, there is no doubt of its being well patronised. Another of the Ng«ire eocial entertainmonts was given on baturday last, and attracted a large attendance. A capital programme was gone through, and a screaming negro farce conoluded the evening's amusement. The dance which followed was aho most enjoyable, and from the success of these gatherings I should strongly advise other similarly situated places and small townships to try the experiment. I must draw a final reminder to the entertainment to be given by the Ngaire Dramatic Club on Friday, the 17th, when the Christmas drami, " Bitter Cold, or the Secret of the Holly Bough" will be produced, and as the cast is a strong one it will no doubt go off well, although the preparations have been rather hurried, only two rehearsals having taken place. The drama, although not as sensational as I' Harold Hawk," has plenty of stirring incidents, and tha two* acts taking place on Christmas Eve, the novelty of a snow storm will be introduced, and the scenery will also be characteristic of this seapon of the year. The entertainment will conclude with tbe prodnction for tho first time of Mr T. E. Crowhurat's new extravaganza, which he has finally decided to entitle " Egmontiua, or the Fairy Spell." The whole of the characters will bo taken by members of Mr J. Robson's family, for whom the piece was specially written, and as the children have been carefully rehearsed, and no trouble or expense has beenspared in the dresses, scenery, and appointments, the author anticipates a great success. _ The Btage music will be rendered by Miss Lena Espagne, who has been specially engaged for the occasion, and I understand that a large number of visitors from Hawera, Normanby , and as far down as Patea are expected up to witness the entertainment. A dance, under the management of Messrs. Arden and W. Robson, will wind np tho evening. Admission being — gentlemen, Is; ladies, free, and refreshments provided.
