POLITICAL GOSSIP IN WELLINGTON.

[telkgbaphkd by our correspondent] OPPOSITION STONEWALLING. Thursday, Augußt 9. — The Opposition tried very hard to stonewall the Estimates on Monday ni*ht with a view to getting Mr Mcarthur's amendment (the practical effect of which was that the House Bhouid have an opportunity of dicußsing the new quota of representation) brought up. Ir was thought that if tbe estimates could be effectually blocked they would not be finished, and the supply woald have to be set up today in which caseMrMacarthur would have a chance of moving the amendment. The members, however, are pretty general':^ of opinion that it is nearly time the session was over, and so the stonewall fell through shortly after midnight.
