NEW CHURCH OF ENGLAND SUNDAY SCHOOL.

Thkbe has just been built in Vivian-street a very compact and elegant building of Gothic architecture, which is to be used in the future to accommodate the scholars attending St. Mary's Sunday school. It is composed of one long room, 60ft x 25ft, with a height from floor to ceiling of 17ft. Rimu is the general timber, the flooring and ceiling being of maitai ; the inside lining — which is left in abeyance for the present for want ol funds — will be picked rimu, varnished. The piles are of puriri. The front entrance is through a prettily designed porch, 12ft x 10ft, in which arc two windows. Another door loads out nt the back, while on the left tide at each end two passages lead into the old school, which stands four feet away from the new building, on the right hand side of which are six windows, one three-light at the back, and one in each gable (bacK and front) for ventilation. At the lower end of the room is a platform, from which addresses can be made, and on which entertainments can be given, the eizo of it being Bft. x 25ft. Around the windows and doors are matai architraves. The roof is a corrugated iron one, and on the gable of the porch and the gables of the main room at each end are cast iron nm'als, which give ornamentation outside. The building will seat between 150 and 200 children, and will be a great improvement on tho old school, which was becoming totally inadequate to seat tbe scholars, who were increasing so fast. The old place will still be used in conjunction with the new building. Mr Sanderson, who was the architect for the work, must be complimented on the elegance and finish of his design, which reflects the utmost credit on him. Messrs R. Earley and J. Allen were tho contractors, and they have carried out their work to the entire satisfaction of the architect. Mr Bellringer did the painting and glazing in a manner that could call for no adverse comment.
