The directors of tho Bank of Australasia declare a dividend of 12 per cent., and carry forward £12,8C0 to the reserve fund. FRAUDS IN DEVONPOBT DOCKYARD. It is reported that extensive frauds havo been discovered at Devonport dockyards which compromise all ranks of tho employees there. The detectives are now making a thorough investigation into the matter. It is not yet known whether the ordinary workmen are implicated in the f-auds, bnt it is asserted that a number of officers and men on the permanent staff are mixed up in the dishonest practices which have been going on for a long time past. A number of the copper workers have already been arrested for fraudulent praotices. It is alleged that they have been in the habit of using Government material for private work, and that they have performed this private work during the hours in whioh they should have been engaged on Government work. He reports finding a quantity of wreckage of a character leading him to believe that the ship Eastminster capsized and foundered. Mrs. White, who was shot by her husband while he was in a frenzied state from drink, is seriously wounded, but is expected to recover. Mrs. White only arrived here in February, and married White after a fortnight's acquaintance. Gladstone, are at present staying at Waiwera. ANOTHER TREE ACCIDENT. A man named Walter Morley was killed at Dargaville to-day by tbe limb of a tree falling upon him. It is the intention, it is said, of Mr T. Oldfield, who has purchased Te Henui ironsand works, to have a trial smelting of the sand with tho agenoy of charcoal and kiln-dried wood as soon aa convenient. After this he intends to go Homo with the ono who hud charge of the smelting and demonstrate to capitalists the smelting procese, and what the working of it would probably return commercially, in order that ho can get cnpitalists to put money in tho venture. A few alterations will have to be made at the furnaco, and kilns will have to be erected before the trial can be made.
