Pope, a y>ung New Zealander, will lecture at the Freemasons Hall, on Tuesday evening, on the life and death of Robert Emmet, the Irish patriot and martyr of 1803. The subject is one which should attract a large audience, not odly of Irishmen, but of all lovers of patriotism. The lecturer -will conclude with the recital of Emmet's speech from the dock, when asked "Why sentence of death should not be pronounced on him according to law ?" During intervals in the lecture several Booge will be given by lady amateurs, aad

violin solo.a by Mr. Hi«ham, who will also contribute a vocal item entitled " Nothing." Messrs. Collier &Co., of Wanganui, have received a letter from the manager of the Majeroni Company, intimating that they I will play in Wangnnui four nights. With respect to Tiirannki, Mr. Liddy writes — "I have not had a word of epencouragment or otherwise from New Ply.routh, but it set me* thinking, and if they do not put thernsslves out of the way a bit, I shall simply shut New Plymouth out, and play at Nelson, Wanganui, and Palmereton North." It would seem from this that the Company are not -likely to stop on their way from Auckland to Wanganui without someone takes tho matter up, and gets them to play here.
