SULLIVAN'S OPERA IN PARIS.
A. friend of Sir Arthur Sullivan, 'Ceilier, assisted that famoae author in the preparation of his scores for most' of the-'Buc^ cessful productions at the Opera CWiique and Savoy Theatre. ■ He, whs ' associated with the opening, of the former house .when first the Gilbert and Sullivan operas were taken earnestly in hand. The trio of §a'voy men, Carte,- "Gilbert, and have each made au enormous f cr^ne,out of the Sullivau work. Mr. Gilbert's ballads gave the librettist his dramatic ideas, and in Sullivan he found a- composer who discovered a kind of musical humour that was sympathetic in the direction of Gilbert's quaint conceits.
