By a private letter by the last 'Frisco mail it is elicited that the concession now asked by the Midland Bailway Company from the Government is on it undertaking that if the land grants of the Company do not average 103 per acre, an additional grant will be made sufficient to raise the receipts to the required sum. RESIGNATION Ob 1 PRIMATE OF NEW ZEALAND. Chbistchubch, October 22. liast night the Synod passed a resolution expressing regret at the Bishop's resignation. In acknowledging it he explained that he had received a communication from the Archbishop of Canterbury in reference to his attendance at a conference in London next year in the capacity of Primate of New Zealand, and he felt it would be questionable whether he could possibly accept the invitation, as apart from the physical discomforts of the voyage he was at a great disadvantage through his defective hearing, and he did not think he waß capable of taking that part in the conference which it was necessary he should.
