Sydney, October 18. The Tarawera sailed for Auckland to-day. FAILURE OF A PREMIER. Sir Henry Parkea has assigned his estate. His liabilities are estimated to amount to £53,000, but are nearly oovered by the assets. It is believed the action of the Premier in, assigning his estate will not effect his official position. A preliminary meeting of sympathisers with Sir Henry Parkes took place this evening. It was resolved that steps should be at once taken to assist the Premier in his difficulties. Upwards of £300 was subscribed in the room, and it was arranged that the Mayor should convene a public meeting to consider, the best course to adopt. In the Legislative -Assembly, tonight, Sir Henry Parkes made a statement explaining the position he now finds himself in. A lengthy debate ensued, and the matter is still under discussion. A new Land Bill, providing greater faoilities for the acquisition of freehold homes by the humbler classes, ' was introduced in the Legislative Assembly to-day.
