VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

Thirteen members of the Rifle Corps proceeded to the butts on Wednesday in order to shoot for Dr. O'Carroll's cup, the match also being the fourth and tinal one for picking the team for Oamavu. The cup since it has been in competition has been held by Lance-Corporal Morton and Bandsman Newell. On Wednesday Volunteer Heinpton made 79, made up of 24 at 200 yards, 25 at 300, and 30 at 500; Volunteer Rennell scored 77, made up of 26, 26, and 25nttho respective ranges; Volunteer F. Bishop, 76, made np of 27, 27, nnd 22; and Bandsman Cholwill, 69, made up of 22, 24, and 23. All these had two extra shots, and besides thib handicap a parade counts three points. The parado points are not added to these scores, but it is certaiu when they are that Volunteer Bishop wins. The cup has to be won, to be held for good, three times consecutively, or five times at intervals. The team for Oacuaru will be Captain Hoskin, Lieutenant N. Okoy, ColorSergeant P. Okey, Volunteers! 1 . Hempton and E. Howeil. After the match was over, the team for Oiiinaru fired a few shots at the 500 and 600 yards' mnges with the Remington-Lee rifles. Owing, however, to it being so late in the evening, the shooting was not very good on account of the darkness. A trial under more favourable circumstances will beheld next week.
