[KBOM OUB OWN COEBBSPONDENT] October 6. — Since eleotion time a cloud of dalness has floated over the place, wbich has settled &t last into a full doss of the prevailing epidemic. Almost every male resident either has, or has had, a severe attack of cold, and now the ladies and children are getting their share. Nearly half the children are away from school, nnd the master has had hard work to keep about so as to prevent the stoppage of work.
On Thursday night a meeting of milk suppliers and shareholders of the Factory is summoned, to consider a proposal to work the sume on co-operative principles. It is said some five or six large suppliers are likely to come forward to take a prominent position, and wiil ask the other suppliers to ussist them: That something will have to be done with the produce of tho cows is patent, but whether tbia scheme will work is another thing. There will probably be a large attendance.
A meeting of the Town and District Committee was called for last night to discuss the position of the Harbour Bill, and to determine what stops should bo taken to further its object; but owing to the prevailing illness, very few people turned out, and no business was done. If the matter is not to lapse altogether, some active steps will have to be taken shortly. The Lund Court sits to-morrow, and several-natives are about the place. The judge arrived just after the conch in a New Plymouth cab. The horses seemed to have had the worst of the journey, as the wind was dead ahead. If the native titles ace satisfactorily settled, some good land should shortly be available for settlement.
The storekeepers seemed to have accepted the inevitable, and no word is heard* of any steamer calling at present. Goods seem to be making their way via Hawera, and along the coast us a matter of course.
