The attendance of! members of the St. John's Ambulance Class on Thursday evening was very good. The remarks and demonstrations of the honorary lecturer were listened to and watched with considerable interest. The Supreme Court jury summonses for the grand and common jurieß are now being served. The sittings will commence on Thursday, October 27th, at 11.30 a.m.' His Honor Judge Gillios, who has just returned from his trip to the Old Counrry, will resume this circuit. ■ The criminal casos to be heard at the Supreme Court at the end of the present month are: —William Drury, for breaking nnd entering at Whakamarn, near Hasvera; Kotahuhiremu (Wi. Kaata), foi sheep stealing at Tikorangi; John Wilson, for embezzlement of Waitara Harbour Board funds (four charges); Oharlea A. Kogera, for forgery and uttering. The last 13 a local charge, the uttering being perpetrated on Mr. J. C. George. The Ladies' Sewing Committee commenced the annual sewing examination on Thursday, only four, however, of them being present, viz., Miss Heywood, and Mosdames Bauchope, Robinson, and Cornwall. Specimens have beea sent from thirty-fivo schools, and the examples from seventeen of these were got through on Thursday, the Committee sitting from 1 p.m. to 6.15 p.m. The remainder of the specimens will be examined to-day (Friday), So far an improvement on the work oElast year is noticeable. The October number "of " Bradshaw's Guide " and " Russell's Time Table " are to hand ; also the quarterly part of the " Postal and Telegraph Guide." They are full of information required by persons in business, and should be in every counting house. The s.s. Gairlocb arrived at Waitara this morning, but did not roach there in time to send the Auckland mail on to Now Plymouth by tho 10 o'clock train. Tho Iron Association Committee has received an application from Dr. Lemon, tho head of tho Telegraph Department, for about 7cwt. of the iron run at the late trial, which he purposes to use in connection with the making o£ a dynamo, machine connectod with the production of the eleotric light. Tho iron will bo sent to him. The Committee will probably meet on Tuesday next lor the consideration of Mr. E. M.. Smith's application re a further trial at running at the works at Te Henui. Our lady readers will be pleased to hear that a London dressmakor has just entered the employ of Mr. F. A. Ford, Chenpside House, Devon-street, where they will bo able to obtain a costume perfect in fit, of the latest style, at a reasonable chi^e. Ab the above are desiderata with mast ladies we predict him a large nut misusing trade.
