CORRESPONDENCE.

Sib,-—A grievous hardship is about to be imposed on us. The Manganui Road Board has passed a resolution to appoint a ranger to impound cattle on all their roadß, to take effect from the first of January. As the Road Board does not publish any of their transactions in any of the local papers, it was by mere chanca we heard such was to be attempted. We, the ratepayers on the Pembroke and Monmouth roads, each got a petition signed unanimously by all the ratepayers, deßiring that no ranger be appointed over the above-mentioned roads. We wish to point out that our grass and fencing has been destroyed by fire, and that we have not yet nearly recovered from that blow. Further, that there are no expensiva earthworks on our two roads, and that cattle on the road do very little harm. It is our own rates tbat are being spent on our roads, and we were willing to relieve the Road Board of that duty, but they havo refused. Tho Board is of opinion that if the proposed loan is spent on the Denbigh road, unless protected by a ranger, it will be lost. It would be better to proteot the earthworks by post and wire, as they havo done on the Opunake Road, and be more acceptable to the ratepayers that are not securely fenced. It is needless to speak of what Inglewood has done. I would suggest that ttie chairman of the Road Board call a public meeting of the ratepayers to consider if it is desirable to have a'ranger.^ By publishing this letter it might bring to our assistance some men who wouid act in the same noble spirit as Mr. Price has done to the ratepayers of Inglewood.—l am, &c.
