NATIVE PERJURY CASE. - Auckland, 'September 28. The hearing of the famous perjury cases against the native witnesses in the rape oase against Wight, terminated yesterday at the Supreme Oonrt. Mr. Dufaur, counsel for the defence, has protested against Judge Ward hearing these oases. The latter had ordered the arrest of the prisoners, and yesterday when Heriata, the second of the prisoners, was brought up, Mr. Dufaur intimated that as all his appeals for a postponement of the trials till next sessions had been disregarded, he and Mr. O'Meagher, the other counsel for the defence, had agreed they would not call witnesses or cross-examine the witnesses for the prosecution, as it was intended to bring the matter before Parliament, and they would retire from the Oourt. His Honor briefly rejoined that their clients would not suffer. The oase then proceeded, and Heriata was discharged, to oome up for sentence when called upon. Mariata was also discharged on the same terms. COMPENSATION CASE. Wellington, September 28. In the compensation oase of Seagar v. Corporation, a claim for £500, judgment was given for the defendants with costs.
