INGLEWOOD.

MOA ROAD BOARD. [prom our own correspondent.] The; usual monthly meeting of the above Board took place in the Inglewood Library on Saturday, the 3rd instant. Present : Messrs. H. Peters (chairman), Codd, J. Brown, W. Davis, Stevens, W. D. Thorn- \ son, Viokers, and T. Parkins.

Road District Accounts. — Mr. W. D. Thomson proposed " that in futnre separate accounts be kept for each Road District, crediting each separately with their rates, and debiting them with their share of the loan." — Agreed to.

Petitions. — The following petitions were laid beford the Board : — From settlers of Egmont and Kaipi Roads, requesting that the money appropriated for Egmont Road North, under the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act be spent to continue the gravelling from the Junction Road as far as it will ge. This petition had eight signatures. — A petition signed by 15 settlers •living on the Dudley and Bedford Roads was' read, approving of the manner in which the engineer has proposed to spend the money from the loan on the above roads. — The same from ninft ratepayers residing on the Dudley Road protesting against the sum of £70 being spent on the Bedford Road on a bridge over the Wai-ongona-iti stream, and stating that they would hold individual members of the Board responsible who vote for any sum ou t of the Government Loan to Local Bodies Account being diverted from tho original purpose for which it was borrowed and being spent on another road where oaly two settlers, paying together a rate of 17s. 7d. annually are residing, while the ratepayers in the whole of the Dudley Road district have to be responsible for tho special rate. — A petition signed by 42 ratepayers residing between the Waiongona and Waiwakaiho rivers, objecting to the employment of a ranger oy the Board in their part of the district, and hoping that it would not be necessary for thfem to bring in force the law provided by the Impounding Act by appealing to the Governor to exempt their part of tho district from the necessity of a ranger. Someone made tho remark here that they wished the eaine law wqb in force as in America.

Appropriation of Loan. — A letter was read from tho Commissioner of Crown Lands requesting a certificate showing that the last appropriation approved by the Land Board was expended in accordance with the schedule of proposed expenditure paßsod by the Board.

Expense of attending to Board Business. — Thu CuAHiMAN stated to the Board that ho h.id been put to a u;ood deal of expense in travelling to New Plymouth and other places on the Board's business, and that he could not afford it. He considered that the Board at least should bear part of the expense. — It was proposed by Mr. Vickeks, seconded by Mr. W. Davis, " That the Board grant the chairman tha sum of £5 5a."

Chairman 1 * Resignation. — To the surprise of tho members oli tho Board the clerk read out the resignation of J:he chairman.— Mr. Petkbs said after so many petitions and other interference with the 1 duties of tho Board, he had, after duo deliberation, come to tho conclusion that the Board had not the confidence of the ratepayers, and therefore he was determined to resign.— lt was proposed by Mr. W. D. Thomson, and carried unanimously, " That the chairman's resignation be not accepted." — After much pressing by the Board ha consented to withdraw his resignation for the present. Meeting of Ratepayers.— lt was proposed by iVlr. Chairman daid some of the settlers were so averse to the Ranger that they would lifce to have the same laws here as are practised iv some parts o£ America. — A public meeting will bo held in the Inajlewood Town Hall at 2 p.m. on the 24th instant, to consider tbe retf n ioa of the Ranger. Accounts.— The sum of £212 11s v/as passed for payment.

A clear case of natural instantaneous electric photography occurred to a sister of the boy Henwoori, who was standing behind him when he was struck by lightning on Saturday. She was marked on bur breast and left arm ia the shape of a fern, but not otherwise harmed.
