BOARD OF EDUCATION. THIS DAY.

A MEETING of the -Education Board was held on Wednesday. " Present : Miss Hey wood, Mrs. Richmond, Messrs. Kelly (chairman), Bauobope, FauU, Syme, and Andrews. Urcnui. — Mr. A. Follet Halcombe, Chairman of the Urenui School Committee, again wrote urging upon the Board the necessity of providing a teaoher's residence. As there was no allowance made for the teocher not having a house, it practically meant a reduction of 20 per cent, on the al.eady very limited stipend. — On the motion of Mr. StME, seconded by Miss Heywood, it was resolved to inform the Committee that the Board has no funds available at present to build a teacher's houee at Ure mi. Tikorangi. — The Committee applied for a grant of £4 as being half the cost of supplying a tank to the school. — It was agreed to reply that the Board cannot contribute towards the cost of the tank, as the whole cost of repairs of buildings is thrown upon the ordinary funds of the Board. The same Committee wrote drawing attention to the desirability of allowing the sewing to be taught in the school two consecutive hours in one day weekly, instead of one hour on different days.— Resolved to reply declining to alter the regulations. Architect's Report.— The report of the Architect as to the progress of works, etc., was read: — Owing to wet weather the High School was not yet completed. The outhouse, at Inglewood was almost completed. The matter referred to in the previous report in regard to Okato and Tntaraimaka had been attended to. He expected the whole of the work in hand would be completed by the next meeting of the Board, and he recommended the suspension of the bnilding operations till the weather bad become more settled. — A charge of dS4 14s was ordered to be made to the Okato school fund account. — The report was laid on the table. Buildiny Committee. — The recommendations of the Building Committee were as follows : That the sum of £280 be set aside for the purpose of building a school on the Ratapiro Road, in the Huiroa Survey District, to accommodate 60 pupils, a portion to be partitioned off as a teacher's house until required for schojl purposes. (2) That the sum of £20 be set aside for the purpose of adding ten feet to the Upper Mnngorei School, on the condition that £15 be provided by tho Committee, as promised. (3) That the sum of £8 be set aside for the purpose of completing the fencing of the Warea School grounds; the work to bo done by the Committee to the satisfaction of the Board. (4) That a sum not exceeding £5 be Bet aside for completing the sanitary requirements at the Norfolk Road School. — Adopted. Increase of Pay. — An application by Miss MeLauchlan for nn increase of pay was declined, nnd an application for removal wus also declined as there was no vacancy. Inglewood. — Tho Committee asked for funds to provide warming apparatus in thp lavatory, which was used as a classroom, — Tho application was deolinod as there were no funds available. — A request n: maps, &c, was referred to the (Jomwiittee, thoy being empowered undor the regulations to provide the same from the capitation grant. Caretaker of High School. — A coir plaint .vis read re tho caretaker of tho High School. It was agreed to adyertiso for a new man to undertake the duties. Inspector's Report. — The report of tho Inspector was read. It stated re ground i'or residence at Frankloy Road, that as it was likely to be undertaken, he recommended that tho Board should arrange for the purchase of one sore or. ground, so as to enlarge tho present area.
