THE INDICTMENT AGAINST THE
PRISONERS.
A POISONED CAT TO BE EXHUMED

On" the Supreme Court «>t Chrieichnrch being opened on Friday, October 8, the Grand Jury re-assembled in Order that his Honor might deliver a charge upon the Timaru cases against Thomas Hall and Margaret Grabamo Houston for administering poison to Kate Emily Hall with intent to kill' and murder,
The following is a copy of the indictment'that was read: — "In the Supreme Court of New Zealand. Tho jurors for our Lady the Queen, upon their oath present that Thomas Hall and Margaret Graham Houston, on the -15th day of August, in th» ye»r of our Lord, 1886, feloniously and unlawfully did administer to' one Kate Emily Hall a cartain deadly poison to kill asd murder against the form of tho statute tm snch case made ani provided, and against the peaoe of our Lady tbe Queen." There was a rumour current in Timaru on, Sunday that a dead cat would play a somewhat prominent part in the HallHotiston attempted murder case. It appears that the nnrse gave the oat the remains of one of Mrs. Hall's meals, and the cat was shortly afterwards found dead, and since it in surmised tha^. the cat died from the effects of poison. It is rumoured that it is intended to exhume the cat and analyse the remains ; but nothing authentic oan" be gleaned on the subject.
