[per press association.] MAN DROWNED- IN A GARDTSN TANK Auckland,- September 21. j Herbert Geasfc was found drowned in a garden tank in Mason's gardens, Parnell. He was manager at Mason's, and how he got drowned is a mystery. SCHOOLMASTER DROWNED. The body of a man - wa3 found in the Waihoa, nearTe Aroha, apparently about GO years of age. He is supposed to be a school teacher out of employment. An application to the Secretary of the Board of Education, New Plymouth, for testimonials and certificate was found in his pockets. MEASLES ON BOARD MANAPOURI. On tho arrival of ' the Manapouri yesterday from the south, it was found she had a case of measles on board, the patient being a child named Striker. Tho passengers are not allowed to land, pending instructions from Wolliugton. Tho Sydney football team are on board. THE B.M. OF WELLINGTON. The Post states that Mr. Thompson, of Otago who some time since bought a thousand head of cattle from the Orua estate, has just concluded the purchase of & second thousand. FOUL PLAY SUSPECTED. A man named Ward apparently about 60 years of age, was fouud ou the beach, at Island Bay, yesterday afternoon. He leaves a wife and 10 children. His stomach had been sent to the analyst. ANOTHER CASE OF SUICIDE. Gbeyjiotjtu, September 21. John Tresure, a resident at Brunnerton, committed suicide yesterday .morning by deliberately walking into the Grey River, near a Chinaman's garden. Ho was fully clad, and those who saw him were too far away to prevent him. MIDLAND RAILWAY.: ~
Christohuroh, September 21. Mr. Allan Scott leaves for Nelson and the West Coast, via Wellington, to-day, to expedite matters connected with the Midland Railway contract. Mr. Borgeii, engineer for the contractors for the first section of the line, also leaves for Stillwater, about eight miles from Greyuaouth, where it is proposed to commence operations as soon as possible. ■ DUNEDIN CENTRAL ELECTION. Dunedin, September 21. ; It is reported that Captain Wales will contest Dunedin Central in the Ministerial interest.
