SOUTH BRITISH INSURANCE.
Wellington, September 20.
A meeting of the Wellington shareholders of the South British Insurance Company was held this morning, at which Mr. Harris, the Christchurch delegate, who has just returned from interviewing tho directors in Auckland, as to the position of the 00. reported the result of his mission. He stated the directors had agreed with his representations on every point, except as to the Eastern business, which it was thought desirable tocontinue. He had carefully examined all the securities, and wrb satisfied they represented the amount of the capital and reserve fund. Several questions were asked, in answer to one of which Mr. Harris stated that no director had ever borrowed from the Company. The meeting expressed confidence in the Company.
After completing the ordinary duties at their meeting to-day the members of the Charitable Aid obtained a conveyance for tho purpose of officially visiting tho Old Men's Refuge, Old Women's Refuge, and the individual recipitanta of public charity.
The Gairloch will arrive ut the breakwater to-morrow morning early, and will leave for Waitara during the afternoon,
