Pbillir Walker, a shoemaker, a much, . respected citizen, at Maori Creek)' attempted suicide this morning., A shot y?as heard at, 4 o'olook, and on going to his residence about 10 o'olook, he was was found on his bed bleeding profusely, the lower part of his legs being much torn . and Btripped of flesh; while there was a wound 1 in 'his throat made,' by a sho'emakes's knife. He was , still sensible when found. He 'had placed some dydamite in an earthenware jam pot and then ' knelt' on it while exploding. He was an amiable, intelligent man, but subject to drinking bouts. The reason he gives was that he was tired of his life, and of no use to himself or anyone else. \lhe examination at the hospital shows that he has three wounds in j his throat, made * with . a shoemaker 'd knife, one of which went through! the windpipe ; also, three stabs in ' his ohest and one in his abdomen. His knees are also bpened out by dyna-' mite.
ALLEGED PERJURY. Chbistohuroh, September 18. E. Enssell has been committed for, trial for perjury, •wbioh. is alleged to have been committed in a civil case heard in tbe early part of this week. •
