shares ; prices are low, and buyers scarce. Insurance companies are, however, goiDg in for more careful selection of risks, and higher rates of premium, which will no doubt result in a better class of business and restore confidence. In local stocks, Gas shares are wanted; none offering. Sash and Door shares are enquired for at low rates; Public Hall and Taranaki Iron shares are unsaleable. An offer is wanted for S'-me Moa Dairy Factory shares. Money in sums of £100 and upwards is waiting investment on mortgage at from 7 to 8 per cent., but a good margin of value in security is demanded. Money on good bills can be obtained at 10 to 12J- per cent. New Plymouth, 9th July, 1886".
