CABLE MESSAGES. BRITISH AND FOREIGN TELEGRAMS. [telegrams from reoter and other SOURCES.I THE BRU'ISH ELECTIONS. London, July 8. The latest list completed of the elections show 240 Conservatives, 47 Unionists, 121 Gladstoneites, 55 Parnellites returned. The Liberal candidates at West Ham (Esses), Accrington and Southport (Lancashire), have been de- ■ feated by Conservatives; also at Newport, Shropshire, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, Fro me, Somersetshire, and the following divisions of South-east Lancashire, viz. : — Heywood, Middloton, Radcliffe, Stretford, Gorton, and Priestwict. For the remaining divisions of South-east Lancashire, Messrs West, Houghton, and Eccles (Conservatives) have been re-elected. Gladstoneites have secured seats for Elgin, Montgomery, and Carmarthen, and Conservatives seat 3 for the following divisions : North Lonsdale, Lancaster, Carmarthen, and Ohorley. Sir Wm. Crossman has been reelected for Portsmouth ; the other seat being secured by Sir Samuel Wilson. Mr. Waddy, who unsuccessfully contested North Islington at the last general elections, has been returned for Brigg (Lincolnshire), in place of Sir H. M. Thompson. GERMANS IN AFRICA, At the request of the Boers, Germany will protect Eppingtonia. NEW COINAGE. A new coinage will be issued in commemoration of the Queen's Jubilee year. DEATH OF COLONEL VIVIAN. The death is announced of Colonel Vivian, late Military Commandant at Adelaide. COLONIAL EXHIBITION. It is expected the Exhibition will be prolonged until December. COLONIAL MUSEUM. The proposal to establish a Colonial Museum ia London is receiving increased • support, and- the project appears likely to be carried to a successful issue. The Prince of Wales and Sir Philllip Cunliffe Owen, who have warmly interested themselves in the matter, have expressed a desire that the museum should be established in South Kensington, but among the colonists now in England a site on the Thames embankment is preferred. WOOL STILL FIRM At yesterday's wool sale, 13,200 bales were catalogued, and prices were firmly maintained. THE ACTION OF RUSSIA. It is announced that the British Government will abstaiu from taking isolated action regarding the notification of the Russian Government closing Batoum as a free port. THE NEW TASMANIAN LOAN. TheTasmanian loan of one million, at 4 per cent., has been placed on the market at a minimum of ninety-nine, and tenders will be opened on the 12th July. COLONISTS AT WINDSOR CASTLE. Among those present at the reception by Her Majesty at Windsor Castle were Sir Saul tsamuel, Lord Augustus aud Lady Loftus, Mr. Combs, 0.M.G., Mr. White Cadells, Sir D. Cooper, Sir F. D. Bell, Dr. Julius You Haast, Dr. Bnller, Messrs J. F. Garrick, T. Blythe, Davenport, Sir Graham Berry tho Marquis of Norinanby, Miss Gleno, Messrs Hayes, Tomkinson, Dobson, Douglas, Bosisto, Thomson, Fraser, Alpin, and Masson. 1 ADVICE OF 11IMUTAKA AND ] RUAWSHU. 1 Madeira, July 7. The Rimutiaka sailed to-day for New Zealand ; and the Ruapeha left today for Plymouth. BRUSSELS UNIVERSITY BURNT. Brussels, July 8. A serious fire broke ont to-day, iv the University oi this city, resulting in the destruction of the .greater part of the building.
