[per press association.] ATTEMPT TO ROB AN INSURANCE OFFICE. Auckland, July 8. The offices of the Colonial Mutual Life Association were broken into, but the safe baffled the burglars. MAN FALLS INTO AN OLD SHAFT. Hokitika, July 9. Wm. Holmes, a coach driver, is missing. He went pigeon shooting, and a search party heard groans in an old shaft. They are making preparations to get him out. Later. — Holmes, the coachdriyer, was recovered late last night. He was alive when reached, but dead before he was brought to the surface. The shaft was 85 feet deep. HOT SPRING AT COOK RIVER. Hot springs have been discovered at Cook's river, a short distance below the glacier.
