THE LATE MR. H. BARRIBALL.
[FROM Otjn OWN COBHESPONDENT.J August 21. — It is with deep regret that I have to chronicle the demise of one of onr oldest and respected settlers, in the pcison of tbo late Mr. Henry Barribali. Tho deceased gentleman arrived in New Plymouth in tho barque Timandrn. in the month of February, 1842. Mr. Barriball's lifetime was devoted to agricultural pursuits f win hoyhood.he being born in DevonBhiro in the year 1807. He started Brst in Taranaki on a small piece of ground at the Mangaoraka, from which ho and his family were turned off by the, Maoris. He then leased a farm on the Hospital Boad, and succeeded co well with his crops, &c, that he soon became in a position to acquire that valuable property which is now known as Fitzroy. Air. Barribali was one of the largest shareholders in tho Provincial Meat Company, which did business in New Plymouth some yenrs ago, nnd he afterwards conducted the business on his,, own account. Mr. Baniball, after disposing of his Waiwakaiho property successfully, retirad to his bush farm on tho feginont Iload. Hero he lnboured till he was laid prostrate on his bed about three months back, which ended in his dentil on Saturday last. Nono of the new settlers have to encounter anything like the difficulties our old friends who arrived in the early days had. What the deceased ijtuaed wußHololy by his own energy nnd perßovcrunco in Tornnuki. Ho leaves a widow to mourn her loss. His sons and daughters arc all •ottlcrs in Taranaki. His funeral, which took plnco lust Monday, was attended by n large following of friends; and us a mark of respect to tho deceased our monthly entortuinment was postponed.
