LEAVE OF ABSENCE. "Wellington, March 22. It is understood that Mr. Hardcastle, District Judge and Resident Magistrate, has applied for sis months' leave of absence for ill-health. ACCIDENT TO RUAPEHU'S FREEZING
MACHINE. Port Chalmers, March 24. An accident has occurred to the freezing machinery of the Kuapehu. The auxilary machinery was at once put to work, aud the temperature maintained. The chambers were examined yesterday, aud the meat found to he in good condition. Mr. Coxon, Haslam's agent, examined the chamber and ascertained that a plate had been fractured, and it was decided to send the ship to Lyttelton, where she will tranship her meat to the s.s. lonic.
