LARGE FIRE IN AUCKLAND. PER PRE SS ASSOCIATION.

At four o'clock on Sunday morning, a tire occurred in Auckland in a house temporal ily unoccupied, belonging to Mrs. O'Connell, in Wellesley -street. The fire also destroyed the two-storied building of Mr. Wilson's, and damaged the residence of Mr. L. C Hanstead, and the house occupied by Mr. Duppy. Mrs. O'Connell and sou, and two grandsons, returned from a visit to the Thames at eight o'clock on Saturday night, i.nd on reaching her house found she had left her bag with tho key of the house on board the steamer. As the night was very wet, Wilson olVered them a shako down in his house. Her houso was all in flames when tho lire was discovered. At the Police Court on Saturday morning. Lucy'Porikupa summoned a native named Turatuha for assaulting her. She stated that on the 14th March, when she got to Stouy River, the defendant's wife asked her to "shout" somo beer, but she refused. She said she had given a bottle of spirits lo Motifs wife, uud th.it was enough. Defendant thereupon rushed at her with a big stick (produced), and broke it over her head.
