[from our own correspondent.] Octouer I.— Fifteen men arrived here yesterday from Manaia ; fifteen from Parihaka ; and the remainder are expected down this evening. Drays have gone up to fetch their bagsjage. The bay is pretty calm, and the weather is clearing up nicely after late storm. Sixty Maoris from Waitara, Httwera, and the Plains were allowed to pass through Parihaka yesterday, after an interview with Colonel Roberts. They will be permitted to remain only twenty-four hours. [FROM TOE " EQ3IONT COURIER."] September 29. — The Taranaki County Council have had some excellent work done on the main south road. Holes have been rilled in, and patches repaired ; so that we have now one of the finest roads in the colony. The men know their work, and stick well to it. , Mr. G. W. Gane has done a considerable lot of tree planting on his farm near Moutoti. His neighbor, Mr. Morgan, has also done a little ; whilst Mr. Lewis Read, a little further on, has been very successful with some gums and other trees planted last season. There ia a nice peach grove on Mr. Chapman's farm at Rahotu, which has only just been discovered by the owner. Some of the trees are very large, one measuring not less than 38 inches in circumference, and about 30 feet in height. The Rahotu district will be one of the finest fruit-growing .ireas in New Zealand. There is good shelter, the climate is genial, and there is a clay subsoil. . - Mrs. Clark has handed over possession of the Telegraph Hotel, and all her late husband's estate, to the Public Trustee, 'who will now administer on behalf of the •Ci editors. ' Mr.~ Crompton, agent for the i Public Trustee in New Plymouth, has been .on a visit here during the past few days, i and has made arrangements with Mr. \V. 1 Courtney for submitting the hotel, furni- , ture,jand land to public competition.
