i. At a recent meeting of the Dundee Gas Commissioners, a gentleman in the course of a speech said:— One word about the cost of the electric light as compared with gas. Being anxious to ascertain his data for this, I pat a few questions to him, and aftor a careful calculation I iound that the cost of lighting Commercial-street with five arc la'nps, for the use of which the company charge 34 d. per hour per lamp, exolusive of the carbons, or Bay, 41 1. per hour per lamp inclusive of all charges, for one year, on an average burning ten hours per night, would bo £342, while the cost of lighting by gas with 25 lamps, beiug the present number iv the street, each lamp burning 5 cubic feet of gas per hour, would only amount to £79.
