NEW PREMISES OF THE BANK OF NEW SOUTH WALES.
The plans and specifications of new business premises for the Bank of New South Wales have been received here, and tenders are invited for the construction of the building. The site will be at the corner of Devon and Currie-streets, opposite the Imperial Hotel, and is an excellent business site. The building will be two storeys high, and will afford ample accommodation for a moderately large banking business, and also for the residence of the manager. The architectural appearance is not by any means pretentious, and the general style of the front elevation is considerably removed from that of a bank, being more like a private residence. There will be no parapet excepting a small one (by courtesy called a parapet) at one angle of the building, which will contrast rather oddly with the other angles. The plans do not provide for the grade of Devon-street, which is at its greatest at that particular spot : and altogether it is evident the aicnitect has laboured under serious disadvantages from not having viewed the site previously to designing the structure. The building is to be constructed of timber, tho whole of the external walls to be covered with wrought and moulded kauri weather-boards, with corrugated iron roof. Although the exterior will not be elaborate, the interior is to be finished in a very complete and elegant style. The main entrance to the I tanking -house is from Devon-Btreet, by a porch, which leads into the bank chamber, 20ft. by 20ft. 3in., and will be iitted up with a handsome counter and ledger keepers' desks, etc. To the right of the banking room is situated the manager's room, 15ft. Gin. by 15ft., and on the left the accountants' room. The strong room, at the rear of the bank chamber, is 14ft. by 7ft. Din.; then comes the lavatory, 10ft. Gin. by sft. ,'lin., and v room for stationery, etc., 10l"t. Gin. by sft. 3in. The entrance to the manager's private residence will be in Cunic-street, the entrance hall being 15ft. (Jin. by 10ft. On the right of the hall will be the dining-room, 15ft. Gin. by 15ft. The entrance hall communicates with the rear of the building, where are situated a storeroom and china closet, kitchen (18ft G in x \'A ft), scullery (10 ft 4 in x 8 ft), wood house, and out-oflicos. The yard will be laid with a concrete floor. The second story is gained by a well-designed staircase, with spacious landing 10 feet wide, aud contains nine rooms, including dining-room (20 ft 3 in x 15 ft 6 in), oim bedroom f2O ft 3 in x 15 ft G in), two bedrooms (15 ft G in x 15 ft), dressing ronin (15 ft x 9 ft) ; altjo. servants' bedroom, litith rtjutii, and sjumlkM' olTic. 1 !;,
