INGLEWOOD.
[FROM ODB OWN COHRESrONDENT.] October 28. — On Sunday evening last there whs a mighty wind here, which seemed as if it would have blown the English Chu,rch over, for it swayed, I am told, to tlirvt extent that the congregation began to cast anxious looks towards the door. It has been braced up amazingly lately liy sermons against "Infidelity;" but they will not be of any use in case of high winds without some timber braces are added also, or the building be lint-d to strengthen it. At Wanganui, I see, the churches are getting alarmed at the spread of the doctrine of " Evolution," ami tind it necessary to have v little "go in" at science. I suppose visions of the loaves and fishes floating nwuy on the stream of science trouble them. Our Church of England is about to come out in a new " bell topper," alias belfry. The following wtro the tenders for the work : U. Turner and Y. Standing, JE,">4 'Js. 6d., accepted; Bridge man and Green, £58; XUqs. prakc, jua. and A. 11, Gaym.-, £01: 1
G. M. Sorrensere, £62 35.; H. W. Rowp, £64 10s.; W. Livingston, £65. On Monday evening lust, our Farmers' Club met. No debate took place upon agricultural matters, but our President, Mr. Olson, introduced the subject of " Tolls," in accordance with notice previously given, lie stated that if justice were done to all districts alike, six more toll-gates would be required, and that he thought either those ought to he erected or the existing ones aboli.shed. After Borne little discussion, the meeting unanimously expreused its opinion in favor of abolition. Mr. Olson thea preßented our Seoretary (Mr. J, Kidd") with a handsome hunting watch,' on behalf of the members of the Club, in recognition of his attention to the arduous duties of Secretary. The maker of the watch is '' Dent," the well T known London manufacturer, and it wan cent for specially some months ago. I hear that some enlargement and alteration is to be made in our Government Building, and it is time something was done, for it is often, on public occiiwons, inconveniently small. It is at present the bent ventilated building I ever met with. I used to think some barns in the old country were windy, but our Government Building beats them — special currents of air seem to be laid on all over it.
