Is Id per doz. ; bacon provincial, 7d. t08d.; hams,Bdto9d ; Canterbury do., bare 8d to8W; potatoes, £3 to £3 10s per ton ; onions, 4s"to 9s per cwt. Fodder.— Mr. Alfred Buckland reports that at the Haymarket on Friday (August 25) fo.lder was in less than usual supply ; prices ranged from 3s 6d to 5s 6d the cwt. ; barley, 2s 7d ; maize, 3s lid the bushel. Horse Stock. — Mr. A. Buckland reports that at the Haymarket yards on Friday (Aug. 25) for the Christchurch horses there was steady competition, particularly for the heavy draft mares, those brought prices varyingfrom £85 to £57 ; draft geldings from £28 to £38; light harness, £14 to £28. The draft entire, Earl of Mar, £89. The only Christchurch horse remaining unsold, is the heavy draft entire Haddo ; he was withdrawn ' at the sale, £200 being required for him, and Prince Charlie brought £30. Wool, Hides, Skins, &c. — At the Hay- ■ market on Tuesday (Aug. 29) hides, brought from 3^<i to 4^d per lb.; calfskins, 3d per lb.: sheepskins reached from Is 3d to 4s 7d each; and tallow, from 24s 6d to 28s per cwt. Cattle, Sheep, kc. — Mr. Buckland reports that the Papakura cattle sale shows a steady « increase ; a good number of stock was yarded on Wednesdsy (August 30) and found ready buyers at current rates. — At Remuera yards on Thursday (August 31) dairy cows were in more limited number than of late, bat no improvement in values ; good animals sold at from £6 to £7 10s ; store cattle in larger than usual number, with improved enqniiy ; two-year-old steers brought from £3 7s 6d to &1 15s ; three-year-olds in fresh condition, £5 12s 6d to £6 3s; fat cattle in moderate supply — 149 head all of good quality yarded ; prices ranged from 22s to 26s ; but the beat average of any draft of cattle was about 22s 61 per lOOlbs. There was no advance in price, but more animation was shown in the bidding than at last week's market. Sheep in less than usual number, and many in low condition ; prices without alteration from last week ; good wethers ranged from 18s to 245. Pigs in full number, and good demand, and satisfactory prices were obtained for them. Fat calves were also in brisk enquiry. Insurance : New Zealand, £3 18s ; South British, £3 2s ; National, 31s ; Colonial, 10s ; Standard, 163 ; Union, 22s ; Union Sash and Door Co.. £8 15s ; Bay of Islands Coal Co., £7 10s ; Auckland Timber Co., £7 ; New Zealand Shipping £0 ; National Mortgage Co.. • 30s ; New Zealand Timber Co., £6 53. — Messrs. Frater Brothers report —No sales in Bank stock this week. Sellers: New Zealand. £23 103 ; Colonial, 47s 6d ; National, 67s 6.1. Sales : New Zealand Insurance, 78s ; South British, 63s ; Accident, 4s lOd. Bash and Door, £8 14s ; East Coast Land Co., 20s 3d; Northern Steam Co., 10s 9J ; . Taupiri Coal, 16s 3d ; Fisher and Co., 11s 3d. Considerable amount of business in Thames Mining shares, at prices showing a substantial advance.
