OPUNAKE.
[TELKGBAPHBD BY OUR CORRESPONDENT. | August 31. — Captain Newall's men have shifted from Ngakumiknmi to Pungarehu. A large number of men are now engaged in filling in approaches to the bridge along the main road, and good progress being made by the end of next month, all the bridges ought to be nearly finished. Messrs. Berry and Newman, contractors, are pushing ahead. Mr. Newman is personally superintending the works. Large numbers of people are round looking at the land. It is generally expected that Okiawa and Oeo-Taungatara blocks will fetch considerably higher than upset prices. The other land does not appear in so much request, but it will all sell. The steamer Hauraki arrived yesterday with twenty tons of cargo and 2,000 feet of timber. Notwithstanding- the rough weather which prevailed during the past five or six weeks, official reoords show that vessels could have discharged cargo for nine days out of ten ; indeed, last' week I was told that vessels could have unloaded thirty days out of thirty-one. Entries as to the state of the bay, weather, &c, are kept at the A.C. station, and has proved a very great convenience for reference.
