THE FIRES AT AKAROA.
[PKR UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Later information from Akaroa regarding the late fires says — " Nothing has yet transpired as to a clue to the perpetrator. Mr. Bayley, of Wackerlie's Hotel, lost his books, but saved some effects. Mrs. Rich, of the Criterion Hotel, had only been confined a few hours previous to the fire. She was first to perceive a smell of fire in the building. A man named Druck, who was sleeping at Wackerlie's, actually heard the incendiary in his diabolical work, but, unfortunately, he imagined that it was the landlord who w»b moving about. The escape of the Bruce Hotel is regarded as almost miraculous.
