LATE DEATH IN CBRISTCHURCH. Christchubch, August 22.

At the inquest on the Tittle child who died suddenly on Monday, Dr. Irving said she had died from the effects of some irritant poison ; but as he had not had time to analyse the stomach the inquest was adjourned. It is further said that the bullock's heart, which formed the meal, and made all the family unwell, was quite fresh, and was cooked in a clean iron saucepan. DEATH OF AN OLD ODD FELLOW. The Tramway Company have de« cided to invite tenders for an extension of the present line, and construction of new ones. WTNDING-UP OF N. Z. WOODWARE CO. Dunedin, August 23. A meeting of shareholders in Guthrie and Larnaoh's New Zealand Woodware Factories Company was held yesterday, W. J. M. Larnach presiding. The business was to confirm a resolution previously passed to wind up the Company's affairs. A motion was to adjourn, for the purpose of enabling the North Island shareholders to send down proxies, but as it appealed that the majority of them had already done so, the proposition was withdrawn. The resolution was then confirmed, and Messrs. Larnach, W. Brown, and D. Stronach appointed liquidators. CHARGE OF ARSON. Further evidence was heard in the case against McGill, draper, of the Arcade, yesterday for alleged arson. The inquest was then further adjourned. THE SAILORS 1 KEST. The first annual report of the S^j-s 1 Rest shows a very satisfactory state" of of affairs. The Rest has been open nightly since May, 1881, with an average attendance of between 80 and 40 ; and some evenings there have been as many as 90.
