PENDING EXECUTION OF HIROKI.

To-morrow morning, at 8 o'clock, Hiroki will suffer the penalty of death for the murder of John McLean. Tho Government have adopted an unusual procedure in preventing the Press obtaining any information concerning the condemned man, and therefore we have to rely more or lens upon rumours or unauthoritativ<> statements. We understand Hiroki's wife visited him a few days ago. After show-, ing marked sympathy for her husband, she began to upbraid him for trusting in Te^ Whiti, and asserted that his blind trust had landed him in his present position. He could see now when too late that Te Whiti could not save him. This upbraiding was mixed with natural griof, and she was not wanting in signs of affection. We are also informed that Hiroki had a dream about a week age, in which lie imagined he had found mutton fish, but they were only empty shells. He was deeply impressed by this dream, and stated that it was tin ill omen. He said that eight days from that day he would he executed, and the coincidence will be strangely verified. We believe Archdeacon Govett has attended the prisoner, and administered spiritual consolation to him, and Hiroki appears to be fervent in his devotions. There will only be a few spectators present to-morrow at the execution, including Dr. O'Carroll, Gaol Surgeon, several Justices of the Peace and other officers of the law.

Dr. Gibbes, Coroner, has received formal notice of the execntion, and he will hold an inquest at the gaol at 10 o'clock.

A meeting of those interested in the Annual Ploughing Match, at Bell Block, will be held this evening, at 7 o'clock, in the school-room at that place.
