WEST WARD. Trrn Licensing Committee for the West Ward met at Mr. Cock's store on the 3rd June. Present: Messrs. Berry (chairman), Weaton, Veale, Gilmour, and Okey. RfMteah of License*. — Tho following renewals were grei Led ; — J. Grylls, South Road Hotel ; J. Hart, Windsor Castle "Hotel. EAST WARD. The Committee for the Enst Ward met at Mr: 11. Eav'ey's house on the 2nd June, at noon. Prexcnt: Messrs. J. Bellringer (chair.tuin), "\V. H. Scott, smd A. Boswell. Renewal of Lirente, — W. Brooking, Red House Hotel. — Granted. Ectem'ion. — The extension of the license for the Red House Hotel till midnight was granted. OMATA DISTRICT. The Licensing Committee for the Omnta District met on tho sth June. Present : Messrs. McGulnness (chairman), Kyngtlon, Adhim, Potts, und Newman. New License. — An application was made by J. D. Watts for a license for a new house to be called the Opunake Hotel. — Mr. Samuel appeared for tho applicant, and asked that thu consideration of this application bc^ ndjourncd till next meeting, as the decision of the local option poll was to the effect that no new app'ications be granted in the Oiiiatu Licensing District. Between tho present tlmo nnd the next meeting of the Co.nmltteo the Government would bo asked to make Opunake a special district under tho Licensing Act, 1881.— Mr: Govett said he had been instructed to oppoße the nppllcatlon, but as fie Local Option poll had decided against row houses, his instructions hnd been cancelled, as it was not supposed the npplloation would have been brought on. — It was resolved "That the consideration of the matter be postponed until the renewals had been dis >osed of."
Renewal*. — .The following renewals were granted :— lt. Julian, Omata Inn ;R. C. Grey, Oknto Hotel ; R. Grylls, Onkura Hotel ; J. J. Donovan, Pimgarehu Hotel (subject to fire escape being made to the satisfaction of tho police) ; J. Stevenson, Riihotu Hotel (subject to the same c«nditions as to fire escape) ; W. W. Middleton, Telegraph Hotel, Opunake (subject to the same conditions re fire escape) ; S. Prosser, Empire Hotel, Opunako (subject to conditions re fire escape) ; A. E. Heard, Moturoa Hotel (subject to fire escape being provided). Transfer. — Tho transfer of the Pungareliu Hotel from A. Bayly to J. J. Donovan was granted. Estenxinn of Lkeme. — The following extensions of licenses to midnight were granted : — Telegraph Hotel, Opunake ; Empire Hotel, Opunake. New District. — It wan proposed by Mr. Nkwman and seconded by Mr. Kyngdom, " That the Committee respectfully reoommend that the Opimake township should be constituted a special district under section 8 of the Licensing Act, 1881." Carried. — Mr. Samuel, on behalf of J. D Watts, withdrew application for license for the Opunake Hotel. Anah/»t. — It was proposed by Mr. Potts, and seconded by Mr. Api.am, "That the Minister of Justice be respectfully requested to appoint a public analyst for the County, for the purpose of testing liquors under 'The Lioonsing Act, 1881/ and that the other Committees of the District and Borouarh ho asked to cooperate in the matter." Expe.nxeg. — It was proposed, "That the expenditure incurred on behalf of the Committee be certified to by the Chairman before payment, and record be kept and submitted to the Committee at its quarterly meetings." — Carried. This conolnded the business.
