A melancholy accident happened on Satur-day-afternoon, about 4 o'clock, to a little boy named Owen Evans, who was playing on the bank of the Henui River with his brother, when he slipped into the Henui River, and was drowned before assistance could be rendered. His brother ran to inform his mother of what had happeued, and she called for assistance, when Mr. Hunt saw the boy's body floating, in the river, and immediately went iv and recovered it, but life was extinct.. - A messenger was sent for Dr. Leatham, who attended, but was too late to be of any assistance. Dr. Gibbes held an inquest at the Red House Hotel to-day, when, after hearing the evidence, the following verdict was given. :— " That the deceased Owen Pugh Evans met his death by accidentally falling into the Henui River."
