MR. W. WILLIAMS AND HIS CREDITORS.

At a meeting of creditors in the assigned estate of Mr. "W. Williams, the debts, of which proofs were lodged, were shown to be about £9,436 ; the assets surrendered were valued at £1,650. In reply to questions from Mr. Grey, Mr. Williams stated that, WBsg in debt to his sons to the extent of over £3,000 he had transferred his landed estate to them some eight or ten weeks ago. In reply to Mr. Duncan, solicitor, who represented the natives interested in the payment for the Kaitangiwhenuablock,Mr. Williams said that in the course of a fortnight he could furnish a list of all the payments made by him out of the cheque for £5411 paid to him for the Kaitangiwhenua natives. An adjournment having been proposed, Mr. Williams objected to any such thing being allowed, as he believed it was moved with the object of adjudging him a bankrupt*. An offer was made to pay Bs. in the £ but this was not accepted, the adjournment having been, carried. It was afterwards resolved, at a meeting of solicitors and principal creditors, that all books, accounts, and papers relating to the estate and to the transfers of property to his sons, should be laid before Messrs. Eyton, Cowern, and Tennent, and that under their direction a fresh deed is to be prepared, securing as much in the £as these examiners think the estate can pay. This- deed will be laid before the next meeting of creditors on July 9, who may either confirm the examiners' report, or put the estate into bankruptcy. — Hawera Star.
