SPORTS AT MOTUROA.

FOOT RACES. The foot races commenced shortly after the ceremony of laying the stone had concluded, and were all well contested. The Secretary (Mr. J. C. Adams) had a heavy day's work, from daylight till dark, in measuring the distances and conducting the sports all through. The following is the result of the races :—: — Labourers' Race (only those employed on the Harbour Works), 250 yards. Ist, £2 ; 2nd, £1 ; 3rd, entrance fees. Entrance, Is. Francis. came in first, but, ■wa? disqualified, he having sat at the bottom of the hill looking at the others climbing up, instead of following them ; and when he saw them coming down the hill he made tracks for the winning-post, which he reached first. 100 Yards.
