SUICIDE BY A LUNATIC.

A most distressing case of suicide occurred at the Auxiliary Lunatic Asylum at an early hour this morning, a woman named Margaret Ann Wyatt having hanged herself to the roof of the building by means of pieces of sheet which she had torn up. It appears she fastened the rope to her neck, and then over a support to the oeiliug, and jumped off her bed. Death was almost instantaneous. There were twenty-eight patients in the same room, and all were in ignorance of the catastrophe. FIRE AT WHANGAREI. A large store was burned down at Whangarei this morning. Tt is supposed to be the work of an incendiary. ANOTHER DOCK TO BE BUILT. At the Harbour Board meeting this afternoon, resolutions were carried in favor of a dock 450 feet in length, and 26 feet in depth. ELECTION OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Wanganui, January 25. The Election of the School Committee was decided on the Bible in school question, the result being that five Secularists and two Bible in school advocates were returned. EXHIBITION AT WANGANUI. The Wanganui Exhibition will be opened on the 20th May. [PEE UNITED PEESS ASSOCIATION.]
