Mr. Olave Deacon has been appointed timekeeper at the Harbour works. The brigautine D'Arcy Pratt arrived in the roadstead yesterda} r , having put into this port through stress of weather. She sailed again this morning for Lyttelton. Captain Edwin telegraphs to-day — "Wind any direction between north-easfc and north and west. Glass will fall, and sea be rather heavy after twelve hours.'' Mr. James Maclcay, R.M., who was temporarily stationed at Greyniouth, has, (says the Evening Post,) been relieved of that charge, and Mr. Stratford, one of the Wardens of the Otago Goldiields, ha 3 baen appointed to fill the vacancy. Labour scorns extremely cheap in the Patea District, as the following tenders sent in for the supply of tip drays, horses, a:i/l drivers, to the Defence Office, Carlyle, will show: — M. If the carters here do not look out they will get competition from an unexpected quarter. ! Messrs. Webster Bros, schooner the Nelson met with prompt despatch yesterday, in this roadstead, from the Lighter Co. She commenced her disciiarge at G. 30 a.m., and was ready for sea at 11, having put out (500 sacks of grain and potatoes. She has made a smart passage of ten days from Waitara to Lyttelton aud back. She sailed yesterday for Hokianga. The Mounted Rifles will muster on Wednesday week, for another " paper hunt." These cross-country rides, which have been introduced by Captain Davidson, are becoming very popular amongst tho members of the corps, aud it is expected there will be a large muster. Three members have to be elected for the Raleigh Town Boar.l — one to fill the place of < Mr. J. Pennington, who has resigned his scat . the other two are scats rendered vacant by the annual retirement of members. Candidates have to be nominated by the 19tu instaut.
