Saturday, July 31.— Before Judge Symonds and Maihi Rangitaheke, Native Assessor. The Court sat to-day, when the following cases were heard :—: — Wi Tako : Claim to succeed Kara Piki in 16, Native Reserve. Adjourned to future Court by consent. Ngapei claims to succeed Kara Piki in 16, Native Reserve. Considerable evidence was adduced to show that Ani Tiria Pihopa, who was ordered to succeed to Wi Tana Ngatata's share of this land in 1878, is a half-caste, her mother being a Maori and her father a European ; consequently she could not claim Wi Tana as lather. Major Brown was called, and gave evidence that, although Ani Tiria Pihopa was born in wedlock, less than a month after marriage, she was not Wi Tana Ngatata's child. Hana Puni gave similar evidence. The Court informed the natives that the evidence was taken down in case it might be re-, quired by a future Court, but that it had no. power to upset a previous decision ; the time having expired during which a rehearing could be granted. Aukawa and others : Claim to Pohokura Block. Map incomplete, and a number of the owners prisoners in Dunediu ; case dismissed.
