[REUTER.] DISTURBANCES IN PALESTINE. London, July 6. The disturbances which were recently reported to be taking place at Haifa, in Palestine, between the Moslems and Christians, have been quelled, and the towu is now quiet. Her Majesty's gunboats, which were dispatched to Haifa, have returned to their station in the Mediterranean. ARRIVAL OF HOMEWARD MAIL. London, July 6. ! The Homeward mail via San Francisco, which left New Zealand on May 25, was delivered yesterday. COST OF THE AFGHAN WAR. In the House of Commons to day the Mnrqnis of Hartington, Secretary of State for India, made a statement concerning" the Indian finances, which showed that the Afghan war expenditure exceeds the estimates by nine millions. The present IndUu Budget shows a deficit of three millions. COMPENSATION TO IRISH TENANTS. In the House of Commons a Bill has been read a secoud time for giving compensation to Irish tenants under certain proposed conditions.
