Burke has been lodged in the Auckland lock-up, and will probably be brought np and remanded to Waugauui to-morrow morning 1 . REWI WILL VISIT AUCKLAND. Auckland, May 29. The Native Minister leaves town today to meet Rewi at Kihikihi, and in all likelihood he will accompany him to town, where he will remain for the purpose of having* some conferences with the Governor, Premier, and Native Minister. If Rewi comes he will reach Auckland on Friday afternoon. Rewi during the time he is in Auckland will be the lion of the towu. He will be taken to visit all public institutions. The case of McLellan, charged with wife murder, has occupied the Resident Magistrate's Court two days already, and is likely to occupy it two more. It is said that to-morrow evidence more directly inculpating" the prisoner will be brought forward. SUSPICION OF INCENDIARISM. Wellington, May 28. The charge against Sarah Phillips, for wilfully setting fire to her house at Kaiwarra, was dismissed. The case rested to a great extent on saspicion. ANOTHER TRAMWAY ACCIDENT A man named Turner, while attempting to jump on the tramway, fell and broke three ribs. MEETING OF CREDITORS. A meeting of the creditors of Isaacs, auctioneer, was held to-day. Liabilities, £26,000 (a considerable portion secured) ; assets, £16,000. A meeting of Huxley's creditors. Liabilities, £2,357 12s. 2d. ; assets, £1,950. Nathan offered to guarantee 10s. in the £ if the statement be correct. KAITANGATA FUND. The total amount collected for the Kaitangata Relief Fund was £1,155 17s. sd. A NEW LOAN TO BE PROPOSED BY GOVERNMENT. It is generally understood that the new loan to be proposed by the G-overnrnent in the enduing* Parliamentary session, will be £3,000,000, unless a strong opinion by the House is that the sum should be larger. HINEMOA FOR NEW PLYMOUTH. The Hinemoa left for New Plymouth this evening, with forty Constabulary. ACCIDENf THROUGH FALL OF EARTH. Westport, May 28. A fall of earth occurred in a claim at Bald Hills, near Addison, this morning, killing a man named Ban^uoline, and injured one named P. Desonza. BOWEN BEFORE THE ELECTORS. Christchurcii, May 28. Mr. 0. C. Bowen addressed his constituonts at Kaiapoi on Tuesday night, and received an unanimous vote of confidence. He strongly censured the policy <*f the Govern men t, arid avowed himself a determined opponent. FIRE ON BOARD A BRIG. At Lytteltou on Tuesday, a fire broke out in the galley of the brii>- Fawn, but was extinguished before much damage was done. An enquiry will probably be held. MORE FIRE. A fire broke out at Wilson's tannery. The flames spread quickly, but were overcome. Estimated loss, between £500 and £600. The shed and stock were insured for £1,400 ; wool, skin, anil leather, £900 ; press, £40 ; all in t the Victorian office. The buildings i insurance amounted to £3,000. MO HE FIRES. A fire at Wilson's tannery, after being apparently put out, broke out again at 11 a.m., and war, again got under. The roof was shingles covered with iron, and, under tli3 iron, fire lurked till about. 3 o'clock, when it burst out a third time. All exertions were useless, and the place was burnt to the ground. The currying shop near was badly scorched, but was saved with a good deal of trouble Correct insurances — Shed and stock, £1.300 in Vict >ria Office ; currying- shop, £200 ; stock therein, £250.
