NEW ZEALAND TELEGRAMS. PASSENGERS FOR NORTH. Wellington, November 13. Tub s.s. Taranaki sailed for Nelson and the North. Passengers — Messrs. Burns, Woon, Carrington, Green, Jones, and ten in steerage. THE LASH. Frederick Gillan, recently tried for rapo on a little girl at the Hutt, received a flogging of 25 lashes to-day. He howled desperately. NATIVES STOPPING SURVEYS AT TAUPO. Taupo, November 13. The natives at Opope have suddenly stopped the surveys which were being conducted by Captain Turner. They pulled up all the pegs, <fco., and refused to allow the iron trig stations to be erected. The Ngaturakawhas at Ohinemutu also stopped Mr. Kay, who was ongaged surveying blocks for the coming Lands Court at Rotorua. The natives in this district are becoming very troublesome, and seem at present to be taking up a very defying atfcitade.
