Friday Evening, October s.— The House was in committee "on the Waste Lands Bill during the whole evening sitting. A considerable number of amendments were proposed in claupe 18 to alter the mode of appointing members of Waste Lands Board, but none of them were passed. The maximum area to be held by a deferred payment seleotor was fixed at 640 acres. In subsection 4 of clause 64, Mr. Reynolds moved an amendment to allow selectors to reside by substitute. This* was negatived by 36 to 8. In subsection 5 Mr. Hodgkinson desired to make the proportion of land to be cultivated during the first year one-tenth instead of one-twentieth. It was negatived by 27 to G. Clause 64 passed and progress was reported. The House rose at 2.30 a.m.
