At 2 o'clock this morning, Mr. WakeUeld rose in his place, and stated that he had a statement to make to the House. He went on to say that he acknowledged the responsibility of the articles in the Timarn Herald, and stated the language was perfectly unjusti6ablc. He regretted they were .written, and apologised to the House and the members, and hoped tbe House would, generously forgive him. That it would be n warning to him and the Press generally, and he would not bo guilty again of such conduct. After some debate, and the expression. of satisfaction on the part of Mr.-Larnacb (who first brought the matter forward), and •from Messrs. Joyce, J. E. Brown, and Sir GJcorgQ Grey, the order for the appearance of tho printer, publisher, and proprietor were discharged, and Mr. Wakcfleld was duly exhorted and admonished by the Speaker. Mr. Wakefield then thanked the House for the generous manner in which it had treated him. The matter, then dropped, and Mr. Wakefield returned a sadder, but I feared not a wiser man. : Thc"Hou9e decided on a division of 26 to 21, " That the Chairman of Counties shall be eligible for Beats in the House."
