THE SECOND WAITARA BRIDGE.
The following is the reply his Honor the Superintendent has forwarded to a memorial from a uumber of Waitara settlers asking that a second bridge be built higher up the RivenSuperintendent's Office, New Plymouth, May 19, 1870. Gentlemen, — I have to acknowledge the receipt of a memorial from the Road Commissioners of the 14th, 11th, 23rd, and 22ud, Road Districts aud 73 famers and settlers iv the east aud west Waitara find Urcmii Districts, in which memorial it. is shown that there is no convenience, other than the bridge at Raleigh, for crossing tbe Rirer Waitara inland near Tikoraugj, that although the River can bo forded iv fine* weather }p js dangerous to do so, at times, in tbe wet season, as it js then subject to floods, at which period it causes loss of time, inconvenience, and several miles of extra travel to all who desire to cross the River nt ornearTikorangi, and you pray that another bridge may be erected over the Waitara somewhere near the Smith Road crossing, Ace, &c.
