YESTERDAY'S TELEGRAMS.
MEETING BETWEEN McLEAN AND TAWHIAO. A TELEGRAM from Alexandria states that on the 24th May, the Native Miuister, accompanied by Major Kemp, Te Wheoro. Marshall, Bush, and Davies (interpreter), aud Major Mair visited Tawhiao at Kaipahi, who received the Native Miuister in the most cordial manner, and invited him to remain for the night, which is considered a mark of high respect. Ho said he would give Sir Donald his own mat. The party remained all night. There were a great number of principal chiefs present. The following day (Thursday) Tawhiao paid another visit of ceremony to the Native Minister.
The conference so far is private, but it is understood to be most satisfactory.
The natives say they would be glad to welcome Grey as an old acquaintance, but have no desire to discuss political questions with him.
The conference will be resumed to-morrow (Friday).
Wheu matters are matured full information will be afforded to the Press.
