October 20. A discovery was made to-day that a valuable case of drapery and jewellery, consigned to Milner, draper, per ship • Chile,' had some of the contents to the value of £170 abstracted. The ship was searched, and a quantity of jewellery was found behind the bulkhead. The chief officer having been selling jewellery of that description, was arrested and remanded till to-morrow morning. October 21. The chief officer of the ' Chile,' who was charged with larceny, was discharged this morning, it being proved that the jewellery he had sold was picked up by him in the hold in the presence of two witnesses.
